The Razzies (Golden Raspberry) Awards:
The Razzie Awards nominations have been announced and the list of potential winners won’t disappoint, even though most of the movies did.
With nine Razzie nominations, M. Night Shyamalan’s 3D film adaptation of the popular animated television series The Last Airbender left fans of the TV series gutted and curious cinema-goers baffled. Twi-hards along with fans of Team Edward and Team Jacob flocked to the theatres to see the third installment of the Twilight franchise Eclipse but the film failed to impress most critics, leading to nine Razzie nominations.

After a decade of absence from our cinema screens, Cher returned to acting in the musical Burlesque and the Razzie voters welcomed her back with a Worst Supporting Actress nomination. Cher shares this category with other mature-aged female singers, Barbra Streisand in Meet The Parents: Little Fockers and Liza Minnelli in Sex and the City 2.
Daddy-daughter combinations at the Razzies are a rarity, but the Razzies voters have nominated Miley Cyrus for Worst Actress in The Last Song and her father Billy Ray Cyrus earned a Worst Supporting Actor nomination for The Spy Next Door.

With the vast number of 3D movies released in the past year (thanks to the box office behemoth Avatar’s success), the Razzies have introduced a special category called ‘Worst Eye-Gouging Mis-Use of 3D’ to honour the movies which 3D-ed for the money and some movies resorted to 3D conversion in post-production to meet impending release dates.
Part of the fun at the Razzies Awards ceremony is to see which (if any) nominated performers/director/producer/ screenwriter will attend and accept their Golden Raspberry Award. Those who do make an appearance usually promise never to return, and winning a Razzie Award is a great incentive to avoid making bad movies. On the other hand, if it weren’t for bad movies, the Razzies wouldn’t exist and where's the fun in that?
The 31st Annual Razzie Awards will be awarded at Hollywood’s Barnsdall Gallery Theatre on Saturday, 26 February 2011.
