Quick Oscar Nomination Summary
February 2nd 2010 19:38
By The Numbers By Linh
This year's Oscar nominations are being led by Kathryn Bigelow's Bomb Squad drama The Hurt Locker and James Cameron's sci-fi behemoth Avatar with each film receiving nine nominations. Their closest rival is Quentin Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds with eight, and followed by Up in The Air and Precious: Based on the Novel 'Push' by Sapphire with six each. Pixar's animated family comedy Up has snared five nominations including a Best Picture nod, making it the second animated feature since Disney's Beauty and The Beast to appear in that category. District 9, Nine and Star Trek all received four nominations each.
The numbers game doesn't stop there. In a spot of spookiness, the number 'nine' appears throughout the nominations in both alpha and numeric form. As mentioned earlier, two films are leading equally with nine nominations and two films have the number nine in the title. In terms of Oscar fashion, you can be guaranteed that everyone atending the Academy Awards on Sunday 7 March in Los Angeles would be "dressed to the nines".
