The Academy Awards ceremony is four months away, yet the buzz for films on the path to Oscar glory is starting to heat up.
There is one little independent film about the problems facing Aboriginal communities in remote Australia that has the potential to light up Oscar night for Australia like Shine did in 1996.
Samson and Delilah has been a surprise hit upon its world debut at the Cannes Film Festival, winning the prestigious Golden Camera d'Or prize for a first film at this year's Cannes festival. It has been chosen as Australia's entry for Best Foreign Film at the Academy Awards, to be presented in March 2010.
The film by Aboriginal Warwick Thornton, continues to receive accolades and awards including thirteen nominations for the Australian Film Institute award ceremony to be presented in December.
A few days ago, Samson and Deliah's cast and crew were honoured with six Inside Film awards: best film, best direction, best script and best music, as well as recognising young untrained lead actors Rowan McNamara and Marissa Gibson with best actor and actress awards.
Samson and Delilah will be available on DVD on Wednesday and will be screened on ABC1 tonight (Sunday) at 8.30pm.

Celluloid Fun
It was on ABC1 last week, but it's now available to rent or buy on DVD.
A few days ago, ABC1 screened the 'Making of Samson and Delilah'. I think this would also be on the DVD as bonus material.
I hope you enjoy it if you get a chance to see it.
It is a wonderful film and I hope it gets the Oscar.
Cheers!
