Re-Enchanted in 3D? by Linh
According to entertainment bible, Variety, Disney has announced a follow-up to its hugely successful live action-animated film Enchanted. Disney has also announced the new team to jump onboard the project, which include director Anne Fletcher (The Proposal, 27 Dresses), screenwriter/producer Jessie Nelson (I Am Sam, Stepmom), and producers from the original film Barry Josephson and Barry Sonnenfeld. There is talk of reuniting the cast from the original film, depending on their schedules and other commitments.
The 2007 film is about a fairy tale soon-to-be-princess named Giselle (Amy Adams), who is about to marry her Prince 'Charming' Edward (James Marsden), when Queen Narissa (Susan Sarandon), who wants to hold onto her throne, banishes Giselle to modern day New York.
Enchanted made over 340 million dollars worldwide and 123 million domestically in North America, so there's a definite cash grab on the franchise but also a willingness on Disney's part to spend money on a 3D release, with a release date pencilled-in for 2011.
There is general excitement amid concerns the sequel, or possibly prequel, may not live up to the original in terms of production values and storylines. Still no word on whether they will retain the services of Alan Menken (composer) and Stephen Schwartz (lyricist) who wrote the songs that earned Enchanted three Oscar nominations for Best Original Song ('Happy Working Song', 'That's How You Know' and 'So Close').
