Celluloid Awards Ceremonies - My Oscar Presenters Wishlist

Mystery Presenters by Linh

Australian actor, singer, dancer and superstar Hugh Jackman was announced as host for this year's Academy Awards earlier this year, yet the awards presenters remain nameless in order to get more people to tune in.

Producers of the Academy Awrds have decided to break with tradition and keep viewers in suspense until the show airs on the ABC network in the US.
Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences spokesperson Leslie Unger stated none of the Oscar 2009 presenters will be announced before the telecast on 22 February 2009.
Leslie Unger says, "There will be fantastic movie stars that appeal to a whole range of movie lovers and fans of our show. We’re just not going to tell you who they all are."

In fact, the un-named 'fantastic movie star' presenters will not even appear on the red carpet or attend/host popular pre-show-themed viewing parties. They are to be ushered along a secret route to the Kodak Theatre before the ceremony.

My guess is the previous year's winners of Best Actor/Actress (Daniel Day Lewis and Marion Cotillard) and Best Supporting Actor/Actress (Javier Bardem and Tilda Swinton) awards should be among the presenters. Unless they also break with tradition on that aspect of the awards ceremony.

My Oscar Presenters Wishlist:

Steve Carrell - So super goofy and affable as Maxwell Smart in spy/action comedy film Get Smart.

Jack Black - One of my favourite comedians and he was great voicing Po Panda in Kung Fu Panda, also was good in Tropic Thunder.

Laura Linney - Won (nearly) every award for her role in TV miniseries John Adams, and I loved her in The Savages.

Robert Downey Jr. - After imprisonment and battling drugs, Downey Jr made his cinematic comeback in action hero film Iron Man and again impressed in Tropic Thunder. I love his ability to put on a believable Aussie accent.

Keira Knightley - Fabulous performance in The Duchess and better in The Edge of Love.

Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson - Top performances in In Bruges and both missed out on Oscar nominations for Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor.

Ralph Fiennes - Missed out on an Oscar nomination for The Duchess and In Bruges but I'm intrigued about his choice to direct and star in a film adaptation of Shakespeare's Coriolanus.

Scarlett Johansson - Enjoyed her performances in The Other Bolelyn Girl and Vicky Cristina Barcelona.

WALL·E - The actual robot live on stage and complete with Ben Burtt's voice.

Tom Cruise - An actor loved and loathed, yet his performance was excellent in Tropic Thunder but quite average in Valkyrie.

Mark Wahlberg - Yes, he was nominated for numerous Razzies (The Happening and Max Payne) but he'll be appearing in Peter Jackson-directed film The Lovely Bones.

Sigourney Weaver - She's the scifi-siren with sci-fi hits including Ghostbusters, Alien Trilogy and soon to be seen in the upcoming James Cameron-directed sc-fi thriller Avatar.

Sally Hawkins - A talented and bright young actress and I loved her in Happy Go Lucky.

Cate Blanchett - Snubbed this year of an Oscar nomination for The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. Cate is rumoured to star as Maid Marian alongside Russell Crowe in the upcoming Ridley Scott-directed film Nottingham.

The 2009 Academy Awards ceremony will be held on Sunday 22 February at the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles and will be televised live by the ABC network.

Australian broadcast will be on Monday 23 February on Foxtel and the Nine Network.

I would love to see Robert Downey Jnr in the role of Oscar's host for sure...

Failing that a shortlist for me includes:

Sam Rockwell (there is nothing this man cannot do, he could come in guise of gene the dancing machine)

Don Cheadle (the man has wit to burn on stage),

Bill Murray (C'mon how has this guy never been on everyone's wishlist),

Kevin Smith (Get the ultimate face of filmgeek up there already - his lecture series is reason enough)

Juliette Lewis (Unpredictable is what the Oscars need)

Anjelica Huston (Bring a bit of class to the show, after all she is capable of anything she puts her mind too)

Jack Nicholson (Sooner or later doesn't have to take the few steps up those stairs?)

Robin Williams (Making sure he has snorted a few lines before coming on stage, cause we all know he does his best work with synthetic accompaniment)

Christopher Walken(Just because)

Sarah Silverman - (Shake it up baby)
