Same-Sex Success – List of Celebrity Twitter Responses:
Whether you support gay marriage or not, it is clear there are no conclusive legal and logical arguments against same-sex marriage. The arguments against gay marriage are fallacious and based on religious beliefs and anachronistic thinking. I'm not gay but believe in equality regardless of sexuality.
On Friday 24 June 2011 at around 10.30pm, the New York state senate passed the gay marriage bill, 33 ayes to 29 nays. A short time later, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, a Democrat who introduced the bill, signed the bill into law and same-sex weddings can begin in New York in 30 days.
New York will be the sixth state in America to allow same-sex marriage after Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Iowa, and New Hampshire. The District of Columbia also allows same-sex marriage while New Jersey, Hawaii, Illinois and Delaware approve civil unions for same-sex couples.
The new law coincides with New York City’s Pride Week and Governor Cuomo is expected to join thousands of supporters on Sunday 26 June from noon in the NYC Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) Pride March. The Empire State building will celebrate Pride Week by lighting up the tower in rainbow colours from Friday 24 June to Sunday 26 June.
The world has looked upon this moment in New York as a long overdue move for gay and lesbian rights and approval came from all over the world via social media.
